ELDERS

Joe Herrington
Joe Herrington was born in Houston, Texas to Joseph and Zillah Herrington. He grew up on the West Texas prairie the oldest of the five boys. He served in the U.S. Army as a drill sergeant and later as a tactical officer and platoon leader in Korea.

Joe had met his wife Ronda Whitfield, at Sheffield Bible Camp when they were both still youngster.  They married when he left the Army in 1970 and raised four Children.

Joe served as a Scoutmasterfor 25 years and was Western Los Angeles Council's Scoutmaster of the Year (1987&1989.).

Strongly infuenced by the cowboys of his childhood, Joe became a Professional Western Storyteller and a Cowboy Poet.  His Storytelling around the country evolved into a blending of stories and poems that not only entertain but also teach and prod the soul with truer understanding of deep values, solid character and the American Cowboy.

A few years back one of those tales grew into a novel about the mystery of the Ghost lights of Marfa Texas.  It is a story embraced in scientific fact while enjoying the latitude of scientific fantasy.  It's a high adventure story of solid character and honor.

In 1981 he traded his spurs for Mouse ears and has worked as the Principal Media Designer for Walt Disney Imagineering since then.  His boots, hat and love for his cowboy days are still his roots and the focus for all of his writing and performing around the country.

His 2004 album MEN OF HONOR was nominated by the Academy of Western Artist for Cowboy Poetry/Storytelling album of the Year.  In 2005 and 2006, Joe was nominated for the Will Rogers Cowboy Poet of the Year.

He does school workshops, festival, churches, civic groups, libraies, seminars, national parks, and conventions.  He performs anywhere there is a hunger for the old values and simpler times when a handshakes meant something and your word was solid.
